Braff cleans up with Scrubs payday
6 03 2007
Zach Braff is about to land a big payday, as long as Scrubs gets renewed by NBC for a seventh season.
The multihyphenate has cut a one-year deal with Scrubs producer ABC TV Studio that will pay him in the neighborhood of $350,000 per episode for the 2007-08 season of Scrubs, sources said. Braff’s deal is contingent on NBC picking up the single-camera comedy for a seventh year, which is expected.
If so, Braff’s new deal would put him in the top echelon of highest-paid male actors on television, alongside Two and a Half Men star Charlie Sheen, whose paycheck also is in the $350,000-per-episode range for the Warner Bros. TV-produced CBS sitcom.
Reps for Braff and ABC Television declined comment.
Braff is the anchor of the ensemble on Scrubs, playing the amiable medical intern John “J.D.” Dorian. Braff’s star has been on the rise during the past few years thanks to Scrubs and the strong response to his auteur turn as writer, director and star of the 2004 indie romantic comedy Garden State. His upcoming projects include a starring role in the comedy The Ex, and he is slated to star and direct the drama Open Hearts for Paramount Pictures.

That is really awesome because he is definitely worth it. And what do they mean “if,” NBC has nothing on its line-up that can take the place of Scrubs. So I don’t see them passing up on this show anytime soon.

Love sticks to it Hilton and Richie’s TV show
6 03 2007
Rocker Courtney Love has sparked concern about Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie’s plans to work as camp counselors for children in a TV series, after claiming drugs were readily available at Hilton’s recent birthday party. In a posting on her website, the former Hole singer has spoken out about the “white powder” she discovered in the toilet at Hilton’s 24 February party. And now the head of Foundations For Jewish Camping is worried about the pair’s stint as camp counselors in the upcoming fifth season of their reality show The Simple Life. Jerry Silverman tells the New York Daily News, “Counselors are trained, recruited and tested. We take (it) very seriously.” The latest season of the show has already made headlines after Richie was taken to hospital on Friday suffering from dehydration on set.

Maguire has spun last web
6 03 2007Wth Sony already beginning work on Spiderman 4, Tobey Maguire has confirmed the upcoming Spiderman 3 will be the last time he plays the superhero on the big screen. Co-star Kirsten Dunst has also said she feels the third film will be the last in the popular franchise. Maguire says, “To me it seems like this is a natural point for the team to break up because we have a lot of story conclusions that were going along for the main characters for the first two movies and we kind of tie almost everything up for the third movie. “It feels like a trilogy to me and it feels like the end.” But moviemaker Sam Raimi isn’t so sure that it’s all over for the web-slinging movie hero. In a recent interview, the director stated he’s seriously considering a fourth film. He explains, “I love Spider-Man and I love working with Kirsten, Tobey, James Franco)… I just have to make sure that when I’m done with SpiderMan 3, I’m really still fascinated with the character. At this moment I’m fascinated with him.” But Raimi insists he couldn’t imagine making a fourth installment if Maguire didn’t sign on for it. He adds, “I couldn’t imagine it.”

Carey turns heads with new role
6 03 2007Mariah Carey turned some heads in Nashville while filming scenes for the upcoming movie Tennessee.
The R&B diva is playing an aspiring country signer who flees her controlling husband in New Mexico by moving to Nashville with two brothers.
Last week, she sang at the downtown honky-tonk Second Fiddle. She co-wrote “Right To Dream” with Willie Nelson and performed it with Nelson’s harmonica player, Mickey Raphael.
“People were weeping on the crew when she sang it,” director Aaron Woodley told The Tennessean. “It’s very moving, especially in the context of the film and her character.”
Earlier, they shot on location in Dunlap, about 20 miles north of Chattanooga, and at Cumberland Caverns in McMinnville. Later they filmed some train scenes on trips between Nashville and Lebanon.
“There I am, sitting on the edge of a boxcar with Mariah Carey, breezing through town,” Woodley said. “We slowed down to go over a bridge, and there were people sitting in cars. I think they did a double-take: ‘I swear I just saw Mariah Carey on a boxcar.’”
