Performing well above the industry expectations, 300 pulled in a stellar $70.9 million in three days. The comic adaptations has broken a few records in doing so. The movie beat Ice Age: The Meltdown for the biggest opening weekend in March. 300 also placed behind the Matrix:Reloaded and The Passion of the Christ as the largest opening for an R rated film. The spartans also slayed the record for the biggest opening on IMAX with nearly $4.5 million of its total coming from these 52 theaters. The film signals the first big films of the year, but with Spiderman, Shrek and those Pirates underway, we haven’t seen anything yet.
On a sidenote, Ghost Rider has crossed the $100 million mark becoming the first 2007 film to do so.
