No more Shyamalan?

23 02 2007

13.jpg Filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan, whose last four movies have grossed a combined $1.25 billion worldwide, can’t seem to sell his new spec script titled Green Planet, according to a report at TMZ.com.
Shyamalan’s newest screenplay reportedly went out to various studios last weekend, including Paramount, Sony, Universal and Fox, and only Fox was intrigued but even then was demanding substantial rewrites, something Shyamalan is usually unwilling to do.
The story, according to insiders, centers on an alien invasion of Earth carried out using nature’s flora and fauna, which is likely why the studios are passing on the project, because Steven Spielberg has already made something similar with 2005’s War of the Worlds.

There’s still a chance that Shyamalan’s script might sell, but the studios are undoubtedly wary after The Lady in the Water performed so poorly at the box office last year, earning only $72 million worldwide.
