Sony Pictures has begun negotiating with Spider-Man writer David Koepp to write the script for a fourth installment of the franchise, Daily Variety said Monday.
Koepp, who most recently wrote the draft of a fourth Indiana Jones movie that got George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford to reteam for Paramount, wrote the original 2002 Spidey film that launched the studio’s most lucrative franchise. Alvin Sargent wrote the second and third installments; all the films in the Marvel Comics franchise were directed by Sam Raimi.
Spider-Man 3 opens on May 4th, with Thomas Haden Church playing Sandman and Topher Grace as Venom. Laura Ziskin produces with Avi Arad and Grant Curtis.
If a fourth Spider-Man movie is to be made, new deals will have to be struck with stars Tobey Maguire, Kirstin Dunst and James Franco, along with Raimi if he decides to return to direct a fourth film. The studio would release the sequel in 2009 or 2010.

This is good news for fans of the series but I really do hope they manage to sign most of the original talent especially Raimi because my spider sense tells me if the franchise lands in the wrong hands it is done for.

Dude. Carnage has to be in either the 4th or 5th movie. At the end of Spider-man 3, Dr. Kurt Conners still had part of the symbiote (black) suit. And, in the comics, Conners created Carnage. And since Conners is in the movies, The Lizard is bound to make a dramatic appearance.

The villains should be scorpion,rhino,mysterio and maybe rocket racer….The idea of the fourth that i think is:this evil guy(the master of evil) should make clones as strong as spiderman.About 5 and they are programmed to kill spiderman but spiderman resets some stuff in them and programms them to help him…Then right at that moment rocket racer comes fights the CLONE spiderman but spiderman clone dies and the real spiderman finishs him off then mysterio comes and 2 clones die but mysterio dies too.Rhino and scorpion kills the rest of the clones but he would need help from…MARY JANE WATSON cause she mysteriously gets powers and they both fight and fight spiderman when he’s fighting rhino he gets a horn in him so mary jane kills the 2 villains and brings spiderman to the hospital when spiderman was savedright before he died.Then they get maried and have a baby and the baby gets super powers.
i think venom symbiote will be in to make carnage, but h lizard may b in it too. i dont think rhino or scorpion will b in it cuz i think the story would b abit 2 short. but if there is a 4th 5th and 6th one i cannot wait as venom in the 3rd one was really cool n spidy was great like always.
I agree that Carnage should be in the next film, however, the plot should be based on research around the symbiote and as a result, Dr. Curt Conners could use the new knowledge to create (turn himself into) the Lizard. In addition, how about bringing in Black Cat (Felicia Hardy) and Puma (Thomas Fireheart) into the next film.

I agree with most of the comments that were made here, Venom, Carnage and The Lizard are a strong likely, villain bunch for Spiderman 4. Dr. Curt Conner’s(Dylan Baker) has a small to medium size sample of the Black Alien Symbiote that first fead off of Peter Parker’s human DNA. Symbiote’s are Alien Organisms that you guys have studied as well as myself, that attach themselves to a host whether it is animal or human that moves, breathes and communicates. Venom I know without a doubt is still alive, The pumpkin bomb that Peter threw to destroy the manifested alien creature attached itself to Edward Brock, Jr. (Topher Grace) before it exploded and blew them both up. Symbiotes are not defeated by a simple exposion such as, what we saw at the end of Spiderman 3. Venom has to return to produce Carnage’s symbiote S-sexually. meaning that he doesn’t need a female symbiote to produce offspring. Anyway, I have a couple of male actors to play Cletus Kassady the professional serial killer who later becomes the villain Marvel Icon Carnage. Carnage I’ve been dying to see him rel soon he is one of my favorite Spiderman villains next to Venom my other favorite. I’m glad that he was in Spiderman 3, I just wanted him to be in the film alot longer than 15-20 minutes. But, my two actor for Carnage are Jim Carrey and Zachary Quinto who play’s Gabriel “Sylar” Grey in Heroes. Bye the way, people, Sylar returns on Episode 2 Season 2 of Heroes tommorrow at 8:00 PM on NBC. Milo Ventimiglia(Peter Petrelli) returns as well to reclaim his identity and memories and stop Sylar.
i think they’ve made the right choice of confirming the lizard and carnage (plus the black cat) as the villians of spiderman 4. plus i think that sandman should return.

I also believe (& hope) Venom will be back in the 4th movie. I haven’t read the comic, but I know in the cartoon series Eddie Brock goes to prison and is put in the same cell as Clatus Cassidy(AKA Carnage). Eddie’s suit manages to save him, and a piece of the suit get onto Clatus which in turn creates Carnage. If the movie has these two villains, it’ll probably play out like the comics – Spiderman faces Carnage and needs the help of Venom to stop him…!?
I’m also wonder when Connors will transform into the Lizard, because he also such a wicked character – Maybe Spiderman will need the help of the Lizard to stop Venom & Carnage!?
Rhino, Scorpion, Mysterio – they’re all great villains – there’s so many possiblities in the world of Spiderman in terms of villains & stories, the movie-series could go on & on & on, which I don’t mind at all because Spiderman & Co. are so awesome. I hope/wish/pray/beg that Sam Raimi directs all the Spiderman movies; he does such a brilliant job – GO SAMMY!

I LOVE Spider-man comics. all the movies have bin done soo good, BUT I think that the villains in 4 should be Venom(of course), Carnage, and The lizard.plus the lizard is my favorite villain.Venom shoudn’t die after 20-30 minutes in the movie, that would be just F***ed up! He lasts for like 100s of comics! That pumpkin-bomb peter threw was a small bomb, harry got the bomb right in his face and almost nothing happened.When venom gets hit with 2 of harrys razor-bats in 3, he heals! So when eddie blew up with the symbiote there was still a little left, and that sould recreate Venom.
P.S. Sandman should return in 5.
There are tons of villians there could be. There could be carnage,kraven,lizard,rhyno,electro,mysterio,vulture,black cat and more.
There could also be the hobgoblin. I also think when harry got hit in the face with the bomb almost nothing happened and when venom does he blows up but there must be a little bit left of him and I also think the sandman should return and if not in the fourth then if they make a fifth he should be in it.

THe real villains for spidey 4 is going to be venom and carnage and probably Lizard. The reason why is that Dr. Coners had a sample of the vemon and probably messed around with it and maybe multiplyed it so there would be more of it and it got away and attracted to another person. Also the rest of the Venom is turned into Carnage because Dr. Coners might of spilled chemicals on it. Some where in the story coners turns into Lizard.
you guys wanna know the true villians for spiderman 4…!!? well here they are……
the movie is almost 3 hrs long and spiderman fights a couple of thugs but ends up noticing those thugs belong’s to the master mind SHOCKER. and once spiderman finishes him off he starts swinging along and minding his own buisness when suddenly around 1:20-1:40 of the movie time he noticed on the streets a green figure and when he ran to it, it was LIZARD. so he goes down the drain and into th sewers and starts beating the crap out of him and wins.now around 1:45-2:00 of the movie time he was asleep and woke up and saw RHINO so he try’s to fight him but lost’s very easily but from fighting lizard some of the symboite got on him when he was asleep and the symboite was so strong that it transformed spiderman into a CARNAGE and had so much power to fight rhino but when he fell near a building and hundreds of ppl fell from it he used this awsome power (his tenticles) and grabed all thos ppl and when good was flowing through his body the carnage suit came off and about 2:30 of the movie time he fights carnage but when carnage almost killed spiderman the army fired there tanks and finished him off. but spiderman/peter parker’s identity was revealed to the whole NYC….. at the end he ends up having a baby boy with mj… but the boy has spider DNA in him so in part five the boy named peter becomes the new spiderman……………well there is your news rofl! it was hard to write this but i got it and i kinda made it up but get this the story line is just like this and some of the vilians. this script is 85% correct but im not sure i had a vision so…. well there ya go pretty much whats ganna happen in spiderman 4!!!

Personaly i think, with the way the story is goinin’, that “carnage” will be the daddy of “spider-man 4” seeing as how “Dr. Connors” has the last “symbonite” and yes I feel sure that the “lizard” will appear also, but if you remember by the end of “spider-man” everyone thought that “Harry Osborn” was going to be the baddy in “spider-man 2” but he wasn’t, so don’t be surprised if you don’t see “carnage” or “lizard” just yet. however we are forgetting a couple of things here 1.”sandman” did not die at the end of “spider-man 3” so he might come back to halp “spidey” in the next movie or the fifth or whatever
2.”gwen stacey” has already appeard in the last movie, so will she die in this one? and i think it’s time “aunt may” knew the truth about “peter” dont you? oh yeah and one more thing i think the “black cat” should make an appearence too, making room for more exciting story lines along the way.

instead of “the green goblin” being responsible for gwen stacy’s death carnage could do it!! his alter ego is after all a serial killer.

Here’s a little something I’d like to ask, why do people keep insisting on the bring back of old enemies?
let’s get something straight:
1. the green goblin/Norman Osborn is DEAD. he’s been six feet under since the end of the first movie in 2001!!!
2.Doc. Ock drowned at the end of the second movie so i can’t see him returning to the big screen.
3. If Venom and Eddie didn’t die at the end of Spider-man 3, how come Eddie’s body wasn’t on the floor????? he couldn’t just disappear into thin air and still be alive can he????

carnage isnt venoms brother, in comics he was a cell mate with eddie who planned on killing eddie. but the symbiote came back in time to save eddie and breaking out of jail in time before cletus killed him
but there is hob goblin which is a merc who stole the weapons of green goblin
so its possible to have hob-goblin appear, maybe even puma the only guy that can be on par with spideys sense. theres shocker, hydro-man, rhino, stilt-man lol.

carnage is just a degenerate with a symbiote. the joker was psycho but was more entertaining and then they release a whole bunch of other symbiote children with carnage with help of fantastic four they hunted them down with sonic guns.
doctor octopus wasnt too exciting after awhile in comics, but the movie made him more fun to see. same can be true with other oldies. remember spidey wasnt always a proffesional hero

i agree with dave and anyone who agrees with him. the list is very long. venom has an offspring named carnage…but in the comics spiderman and venom team up to kill carnage because he’s to stong. also, carnage has an offspring named toxin. i don’t know much about that, though. also, there’s the rhino, kingpen, vulter, shocker, scorpion, mysterio, and many more. and something else, spiderman, iron man, and the hulk join forces to create ‘Team Shield’. again, i don’t know much about that. to summarize it all, there could be many more spiderman movies.

I heard Green Goblin’ll be in the fourth movie. The actor who plays Harry all ready said that his character isn’t actually dead and was all like “shhh!” Lmao! And since Venom’s appearance was so short he’ll more than likely be in the fourth as well… Hopefully Carnage too. The Symbiotes always rocked. And I say GO GREEN GOBLIN! XD OH! Maybe it’ll be Symbiotes Vs. Spidey & Goby? YAY! I kinda like him better evil though. GO EVIL!
Anywho! This series will more than likely end with Spidey joining S.H.I.E.L.D. like all the other Marvel movies. (Example: Iron Man, Hulk 2, etc(you see it at after the credits).
